Golf Teaching Aid - Hitting A Fat Golf Shot

How many times have you been embarrassed out on the course by taking a big swing at the golf ball, only to send sod flying farther than the ball? Well, we've all been there and done that. The good news is that hitting the ball fat is an easy cure. This golf teaching aid will show you how to stop digging sod and start hitting more greens.

When you hit the ball fat it's because your shoulder is dipping down towards the ground. This in turn makes you hit the ground with your golf club way too early and creates a fat shot. The funny thing is, this generally ocurrs when you are really trying to hit the golf ball as far as you can. You overswing and the results are not pretty.

To correct your swing and stop hitting the ball fat you will need to keep your lower body out of the picture. Instead of leading your backswing with your hips, lead with your arms. This will keep you from over emphasizing your lower body during the weight shift on your downswing.

At the top of your backswing, keep your leading arm as straight as you can. Start down with your leading arm extended and then bring around your lower body.

Try to make a conscious effort of keeping your shoulder down on the ball. This will help keep you on the right swing plane. Don't let your shoulder come up and away from the target before impact or your body will get ahead of your hands and cause you to hit it fat, or even slice the ball.

Work on this a while out on the practice range. With just a little work, you'll quit chunking the ball and start hitting it much better.
