Callaway Golf Clubs Review

Every golfer has their own favorite golf clubs on their "wish list", and for many golfers, a new set of Callaway golf clubs are the ones of choice. Callaway golf clubs are one of the finest golf club manufacturers in the world today. They are enjoying the success that most others could only hope for.

Back in 1982, Ely Callaway bought out Hickory Stick USA and got his start with the company. Later, he changed the name to Callaway Hickory Stick USA. In the early days he would even sell his golf clubs out of the trunk of his Cadillac.

As the company began to grow, so did the technology he used in making Callaway golf clubs. In 1986, the company would become the first golf club maker to use a milling machine to ensure absolute flatness in their line of putters. Then, in 1988, the company changed their name to Callaway golf. Later, in 1992, they began issuing and trading stock on the NYSE.

Callaway golf became the runaway leader in manufacturing woods and irons during the 1990's. The competition wasn't even close. Callaway golf grossed more than $800 million dollars in sales, which was three times more than any other golf club maker.

Over the years, Callaway golf has acquired other golf makers such as Odyssey Golf, who carries the White Hot line of putters. They've bought out Top Flite and Ben Hogan golf brands. Of course, Callaway Golf not only makes and sells clubs, but they also produce bags, balls, apparel, and much more.

Callaway Woods

The club that put Callaway Golf on the map was of course, the Big Bertha driver. The Big Bertha took golf to a new level. By utilizing a new, oversized clubhead, the Big Bertha exploded overnight in sales. It has literally become the standard in golf. Who doesn't own an oversized 400 - 460cc driver? We all do.

Today, Callaway Golf's latest driver is called the Fusion FT-3 . It has a large 360cc clubhead along with Fusion technology. Callaway's fusion technology is the newest in redistributing weight in the clubhead to control sidespin on those off-center hits. In turn, this allows golfers to better keep their ball in play on the fairway and not in the deep stuff.

Callaway Golf's Fusion FT-3 also employs their patented Variable Face Thickness (VFT) technology. This VFT technology makes for a much larger sweet spot and adds more power and energy. Every Callaway FT-3 comes designed for your individual golf swing. Regardless of whether you hit a fade, a draw, or hit the ball straight, you can taylor the club to suit your swing style. The Callaway Fusion FT-3 has a retail price of $500. When you hit one you'll understand what a good driver this new club is.

Callaway Irons

I've played many different sets of irons from golf makers and I have to say that the Callaway irons are at the top of the list. Playing a round of golf with a set of Big Bertha irons is a wonderful experience. These clubs feature an oversized clubface, along with either steel or graphite shafts. Big Bertha irons are great for all skill levels as they are so easy to hit.

Callaway Golf has also come out with a line of irons to match up with their Fusion woods. The Big Bertha Fusion irons have recently been introduced, and retail for approximately $1800. If you're a serious golfer and have the extra money in your budget, a set of Fusion irons would make a great addition to your bag. The Fusion irons feature a titanium clubface and a graphite shaft. I was hooked the first time I tried them out.

Regardless of what type of Callaway golf clubs you purchase, whether it is a brand new set, or a good used set of X-16's, you'll be getting a quality golf club. Callaway Golf has had a great past, and with the introduction of the Fusion brand of clubs, it looks like an even better future is on the horizon.
